Share love. Share laughter. Share life.

Location

We are currently recruiting for carers that reside within both the London Borough of Sutton and the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames, although we are open to speaking with people that live just outside of the Boroughs.

Encompass Shared Lives

Most people are familiar with the fostering model of care and support for children; Shared Lives is a similar service but for adults. Working on behalf of the London Borough of Kingston, Encompass recruits, trains and mentors paid carers from the comfort of their own home to work to support vulnerable adults.

Vulnerable adults may have specific support needs that could be a cause of learning or physical disabilities, frailty or dementia, autism and/or mental health.

What is the role of a Shared Lives carer?

Shared Lives carers give a helping hand with every day care and health needs. Examples include providing a routine, cooked meals, attending appointments, getting out in the community, or watching your favourite program on TV!

Types of care

  • Live-in support - the vulnerable adult becomes a part of the family by being involved in regular daily activities for a few months or years. This could also be a stepping-stone to more independent living.
  • Temporary overnight support - the vulnerable adult would live with you for a few days or weeks.
  • Day support - the vulnerable adult would visit you during the daytime to share interests and do activities together.

Carers provide their flexibility and availability and can even provide a service to more than one adult.

Who can be a Shared Lives carer?

Carers must live in the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames, although we are open to speaking with people that live just outside of the Borough. Carers come from all walks of life, all with different daily routines. You can become a Shared Lives carer if you are a single person, a couple, retired, studying or even a family with children.

It’s our job to match carers with suitable adults based on similar personalities, religion, interests and hobbies. Both parties have a choice and this is fundamental to the success of the service.

Some vulnerable adults will require 24/7 care and in this case, the Shared Lives carer must have space to accommodate them within their home, such as a spare room.

If this sounds like the perfect role for you, and you are looking for a way to give back to your local community while being able to work from home, please fill in your details and a member of our team will be in touch to discuss your Shared Lives journey!

Compensation

As a self employed Shared Lives carer, you will be paid for the care and support you provide including generous tax-free allowances, a monthly rental component and a contribution towards your household costs.
