The Position


We are excited to welcome applicants for the next intake of Trainee Targeted Housing Advisors to join our Housing Advice, Information and Assessment (HAIA) service. Depending on your experience, the journey on our in-house programme lasts around 2 years fixed term with salary increases at key milestones. The Scheme supports you to develop professional skills and gain relevant experience to act as an advisor to our clients in the London Borough of Sutton.

Key tasks and responsibilities

This is a front-line role within our HAIA Service which delivers statutory services on behalf of the London Borough of Sutton local authority. Our Targeted Housing Advisors provide support and assistance to households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness to determine what statutory duty may be owed under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, whilst at all times promoting our Company values. You will meet a diverse set of clients to understand and assess their circumstances and think creatively and sensitively to support the prevention and relief of homelessness.

Location

This role requires flexible working, as the post holder will work within the community, from home and when necessary from the Encompass Head Office in Sutton.

Terms

Starting salary is £25,766 per annum. This is a full time (36 hours per week) post offered on an initial one-year fixed term basis. The contract will be extended for a further 12 months on successful completion of Year 1 training and made permanent if Year 2 training is successfully completed or the requirements of a full-time post are met earlier. You will have 23 days of annual leave per year plus bank holidays.

The Person


This is an entry-level role which means we are open-minded about the experience you may have (or not have) gained so far. What is important, however, is that you are keen to set out on a career path which develops excellent skills in case management, advocacy and the knowledge and application of relevant legislation.

It would be advantageous, but not essential, to have some knowledge of homelessness or housing legislation, and we would encourage applicants to do some reading and research into the legislation, codes and guidance which affect the services we offer to our local community. We will support you through our programme with internal and external training, including shadowing, observation, case work, reading, quizzes and blended learning tasks to meet the necessary learning outcomes. In turn, we will expect you to take responsibility for your learning and development, to plan and manage your study time and maximise opportunities to progress through the Scheme.
